Ben, has been working as the bike mechanic at Helensvale Cycle Scene since leaving school about five years ago. He has also spent all his spare time after school, work, weekends and whenever else he could following his passion...riding!
A few years ago, when the Helensvale Skate Park was allotted council funding for extensions, Ben, along with a group of local riders, put together their suggestions and a plan which became part of the council's works for the skate park.
So, it was put to him that he should open a bike shop. The next step was to find a good location to start out our new venture that was big enough to stock what he needed and small enough to run himself.
We found the shop in Upper Coomera The Local Bike Shop Shopping Village on our first trip out to look around and the rest is history.
For the past few months Ben has been ordering stock, fitting out the shop (with the help of other riders who are tradesmen) building the bikes, and finally opening the doors about two weeks ago.
People who shop in the BiLo centre have been really interested and lots of the local kids have become regular visitors after school...there seems to be a lot of bmx and scooter riders in the area...all keen to have a "Local" place to shop or just for a look at what's new.
The shop is catering for a wide market, mostly family orientated. We stock BMX, Mountain, Hybrid, Childrens bikes and lots of scooter wheels and scooters.
Ben does instore services and repairs Monday to Friday and we sell wheels, tyres, tubes and parts too. We stock all the usual bike gear...helmets, gloves, pads, grips, seats, child carriers, baskets, bike racks for cars, pumps, tools, locks and much more. If we don't have it Ben is happy to order it in for our customers.
So when you go to "The Local Bikeshop" you know you are speaking to the person who builds bikes from the ground up and knows exactly how they work and how to service them or what might be causing your problem.
Ben went to Helensvale High School (as with his 3 brothers) and we have lived in Helensvale for 16 years, so we feel we are "locals" in the area and are proud to be opening a business within our local community.
